VIC Brings the Future of XR to the Engineering Festival
On 20 September 2026, the Virtual Innovation Consortium (VIC) brought the future of extended reality (XR), immersive technologies and social robotics to the Engineering Festival at Politecnico di Milano, welcoming 350 visitors to an interactive day of exploration, learning and innovation.
Held at the Leonardo Campus, the VIC experience offered visitors the opportunity to discover emerging technologies through hands-on activities, immersive experiences and conversations with researchers, technology experts and industry professionals.
Discovering XR through hands-on experiences
Throughout the day, visitors explored a range of innovative technologies and applications, including immersive experiences, augmented and virtual reality, Industry 4.0 training solutions and social robotics.
The activities showcased how these technologies are being applied across education, industry, cultural heritage, professional training and human–technology interaction, giving visitors a hands-on perspective on the opportunities offered by immersive and emerging technologies.
Industry partners bringing innovation to life
We were delighted to welcome our industry partners WAY Experience and INVELON ITALIA, whose participation contributed to showcasing the practical applications of XR and immersive technologies and strengthening the connection between research, innovation and industry.
The involvement of VIC’s industry partners demonstrates the value of collaboration across the consortium, bringing together complementary expertise to develop technologies and experiences that can have a real-world impact.
Connecting research, education and industry
The strong turnout of 350 participants highlighted the growing interest in immersive technologies and their potential applications across education, industry, research and everyday life.
VIC’s participation in the Engineering Festival reflects the consortium’s commitment to bringing together higher education, frontier research and industry to create new opportunities for knowledge exchange, digital innovation and skills development.
A special thank you to WAY Experience and INVELON ITALIA for their active participation and contribution to the event. We look forward to developing many new activities together and continuing to create opportunities for collaboration, experimentation and innovation across the VIC consortium.
